Technical details

FSPL = 20 log10(4πdf/c), with frequency and distance converted to Hz and metres. Received power = transmit power + Tx gain − FSPL − environmental loss; Rx gain is fixed at 0 dBi. Margin is received power minus sensitivity. Urban, suburban and rural losses are fixed illustrative values of 18, 10 and 5 dB. Spectrum demand assumes a 1 GHz pool; the interference index combines that demand with low margin using a synthetic heuristic, not a probability. Status thresholds of 8 and 20 dB are illustrative. The comparison sweeps 0.5–1.5 times the selected distance; scenario count changes sampling, not RF physics.
